Requirements for an animal
Your animal must be friendly, well-behaved, and enjoys being around people, as they will be the star of the therapy sessions. Does not need to be highly trained, but must be under control. Can not show any signs of aggression and shouldn't be too jumpy. Any tricks are a bonus but are not required.
Requirements for an animal owner
We are looking for volunteers that are patient, empathetic, and able to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, creating a warm, comforting environment for those they visit. A positive attitude, reliability, and a commitment to the cause are essential, as you will be representing our charity and fostering meaningful connections. Volunteers should be comfortable with basic animal care, ensuring that their pets are healthy, happy, and well-groomed for visits. Flexibility is important as visits may vary in frequency and location. Previous experience working with animals or people in therapy settings is a bonus, but not required. Above all, we are seeking individuals who are excited to share their pets and make a tangible difference in their community.
Assessment
Before joining us as a therapy team you and your animal will have to undergo a simple assessment. We will check how your pet behaves around people and how it reacts to different sounds, situations, etc. If passed, we will ask you to read through and sign our volunteer agreement and information sheet about yourself and your pet. The whole process takes about 1-1,5 hour.
